RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)
The RCIA is the Church's standard process for educating and forming adults who which to be baptized in the Catholic Church. These men and women seeking baptism are know at various points in the process as inquirers, catechumens and and elect. A parallel or even combined process is often used for adults who have been baptized in another Christian denomination and wish to be Confirmed and receive First Holy Eucharist with the Catechumens in the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. Also occasionally included in this process are Baptized Catholics who have not been confirmed or made their First Holy Communion.
If you are an adult seeking baptism in the Catholic Church, an baptized Christian wishing to join the Catholic Church, or an adult Baptized Catholic seeking to be Confirmed and/or receive Holy Communion, this is what you are looking for.
The RCIA is also a great opportunity for parishioners to help minister to the men and women seeking full membership in the Church. St. Vincent's is currently organizing its first RCIA team and is eager for volunteers who are willing to walk with our Catechumens and Candidates, learning with them about our Church and sharing our experiences.
